I did not have any problems with skunkiness or anything else that others have commented on. The head of this beer is beautiful--looks like a capuccino head. Color is very dark. The taste is a classic stout with a more coffee flavor with a dark-chocolate flavor thrown in there. The beer isnt as thick as I imagined, which is good and bad. It makes me want to drink it too fast. The best thing about this beer is its long, creamy and pleasant finish. This is probably another reason why I drank it fast. The 7% is hidden amazingly.
re-rate. Aroma is diminished than I remember. Finish is a little watery. JPDIPSO (4920), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA

Aromas of lIghtly roasted malt, brown sugar, raisins, lightly burnt sugar, and a mild herbal to lightly floral hops scent. Floor malt and mild hopsack flavors. Something about a more traditional english ale that warms the spirit. Rich toasted malt flavors along with hints of toffee, and grilled ripe fruit. Long linger with roasted malt and mild charcoal. Seems mils by todays standards, but still a fine imperial stout.
Original 9/5/9/4/18-4.5 Very rich considering its strength with other counterparts. Raisins and burnt fruit grab our taste buds and shake your mind. Spicy characters abound. The yeast plays such an important part in this beer and makes it one of the top five imperial stouts. NYDennis (64), Port Jefferson Station, New York, USA

Pleasant roasty flavor with strong overtones of coffee, finishes off slightly bitter. Mellow palate. A very enjoyable beer. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 19, 2002 deep-space darkness accentuated by only the thinnest shim of burnt orange. like our current executive branch of government, a token and unimpressive head. it’s vastly more substansial beneath that airy pate however, a concentrated doppelbock aroma of dried fruits steeped in brandy, sweet smelling but manifestly corpulent (you’d guess it was la brea tar, extra virgin whale oil and vegemite). very espresso-like taste, like sweet freeze-dried coffee disolving on the tongue, some sherry and black licorice, modest bitterness. delightful and perfectly interchangeable with a barley wine next time stephen hawking pops by for a night cap.
