An incredibly complex palate, chewy, dark fruit, raisons, plum, currant, blackberry, black cherries. Vinous qualities, port, licorice. Lovely dryness in the end. A perfect brew, im speechless. Rich, slightly sweet malty aroma with good roasty notes, hints of coffee and a touch of alcohol. Sweet roasty malt flavor with a touch of sourness and coffee/chocolate notes. A very slight alcohol flavor is evident. The finish is bitter sweet and roasty. Full bodied, smooth and slightly warming. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 9, 2003 Thick looking black, with a small whitish mist of head floating atop. Completely opaque. Very nice. Aroma is very big and roasty, with a subtle hopping. Flavor is very bold, with huge sweetness and a big roasted flavor. It is subtle, however, and fairly easy drinking for an imperial stout. A great dessert beer. Probably one of my top three imperial stouts. beerguy101 (3946), Newark, California, USA

Nice beer. Worth trying. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. ChristianScheffel (4632), Odense, Denmark

A pleasant warm flavour without being too sweet. One of the Kolding Beer Fest beers I must find and give a closer inspection.
Re-rate: Holds up on closer inspection. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

No surprise that Sam Smith’s Imperial is quality ... everything I’ve ever had from the brewer is top-notch. Poured an opaque black with the faintest of ruby highlights when held to the light; creamy tan head that lasts; aroma of dark chocolate and roasted barley ... sweet, but not overly so. Flavor is robust and complex: dark chocolate, roasted-bordering-on-burned malt, flavorful hops on the back end ... lingering aftertaste. Smooth on the palate. Damn. This is a good beer.
