Powerful aromas that mimic a glass of fine port: chocolate, raisins, plums, a little smoke essence. Delicious flavours of the same, plus some coffee notes and a well rounded finish. Pleasantly heavy mouth feel without being cloying. This beer is as close to perfect as I’ve had. Outstanding! Cybercat (811), Georgia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 14, 2007 The beautiful sable color and moderate head are attractive, and the decidedly stouty aroma with a strong caramel overtone cries "You will drink me, and you will enjoy me!" Flavor is rich and malty, and has caramel hints and a touch of smokiness. It goes down with a smooth, pleasant finish that has only a whisper of bitterness. Very satisfying, this is a must for all porter and stout fans! TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Sam Smith Imperial Stout pours to an ink black color with a thick and creamy tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is just jam packed with a multitude of aromas. Dark chocolate, espresso coffee, sweet malt, licorice, and roast. The palate is rich and decadent on the tongue with intense flavors of dark chocolate, licorice, black currants, and coffee. Sam Smith Imperial Stout finishes with more complex dark malt and roasty flavors, and and slightly warming, dry and roasty.

Pours dark brownish black with a heavy roasted barley and chocolate nose. Intense yeast flavor with a bit of a syrupy finish. One of the best. tromboneman (17), USA

The head was very, very thick though. It smelled as though it would be a little bitter but this was one smooth stout. It was chocolaty, hearty and robust. Another great brew from Samuel Smith. davidm (178), Melbourne, Australia

Aroma of dark chocolate, raisins, port, coffee, and a touch of smoke. Flavour is predominantly sweet, with bitterness at the end, just a bit short to get full marks. Medium body, the mouthfeel is creamy and exuberant. Black colour, with an off-white head that stays for the whole trip.
