evilsoc (145), Wales May 13, 2008 It’s been a while since I had this so I’ll re-rate next time I have it but to me this doesnt the huge ABV that’s normal with U.S Imperial stouts. There is a savoury salty bite which finishes the roasted woody coffee flavour off nicely and a notable hop finish to match the sweetness.
rayOfBeer (226), El Cerrito, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 Poured from bottle an inky black with and a medium sized off white head. The aroma is of soy sauce and caramel. flavor is a lot like soy sauce with some tartness, caramel, and roasted grain.. Palate is still with mild carbonation a little sweetness and a good tartness. Overall easy to drink for an imp stout and goes well with snacky foods. I’d drink more if given a chance. bretupdegraff (52), , Indiana, USA Aug 23, 2008 Poured dark with a decent bi-color head that stayed strong
Initial taste seemed a bit bland to my expectations aftertaste was nice.. Brew may have been chilled a bit too much
This does not compare to the Stone or Speedway Stout
Taste got better as it warmed - all around good flavor. Seems to have a bitter/sour/tart bite to it that I was not expecting
I would drink again but hope to try along side my favorite Imperial Stouts to compare.
Certainly not the best IRS. greenmanalishi (199), Leicestershire, England Aug 19, 2008 mmmmm...pours next-to-black with a small, non-lasting tan/hint of rose colour head. aroma is centered around roasted malts. flavour is treacle and other stout staples but they are both balanced and well-defined here. smooth and lingering to the mouth. uhre (235), Denmark Aug 18, 2008 A dark beer with a bit of red and a little head. Aroma of caramel, prunes and roasted barley. The flavor is similar, but could need a bit more alcohol. cluny6 (61), Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Aug 17, 2008 Pours pitch black with small tanhead that reminds me of a pancacke batter that’s been in the pan for a minute or so. Like when the batter starts to get cook and bubbles ip, before flipping. The aroma is very chocolaty and some alcohol is noticeable. The taste is of bittersweet chocolate. Nice hop aftertaste. Good alcohol balance. moderate carbonation, creamy and silky.
Overall A
