| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2008 I quite liked this one. Pours a dark brown into the glass with no head to speak of. Aroma is sweet of Crystal malt, caramel, and sugar. Flavor is very smooth with hints of caramel, nuts, a little hops, and quite malty. Great mouthfeel.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 25, 2008 Good beer overall. Aroma is yeasty, with notes of hazelnut, slight alcohol. It has a nice brown color, with a strong white head. Beer is sweet, yeasty, and nutty. Slight hop bite, especially on the palate. Medium thick mouthfeel. VonHayes (10), USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 23, 2008 I like drinking this beer. It’s pretty basic but has a rich aromatic flavor and decent hops. Nothing to scream about but nothing to sneeze at either. What a horrible write-up. Beer2000 (1852), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 355ml bottle. Clear deep brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma is roasted caramel and brown sugar. Flavor is rather sweet, balanced bitter, caramel, roasted malt, dry fruit and a hint of alcohol. Medium body. A clean, nice well balanced brown ale, not outstanding – just nice. jspruit (113), Dublin, Ireland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2008 Ironically enough I picked this 550mL beer up in Michigan and brought it back to Europe to enjoy.
Pours a nice amber brown and when held up to the light there are some light red hints coming through. Small 1/2 finger slightly off-white head that dissipates to a light foam that stays with the beer.
The aroma is very pleasant-sweet and nutty with hints of yeast/bread that give a pretty good idea of what the beer is going to taste like later.
Sweetness is the first thing about this beer and it is nice and pleasant, right on the edge of where you would want it to be I think. There are also some nutty flavors in the finish.
There is some light carbonation and overall the beer is very light-not really too complex so it goes down nice and smooth. I could drink another if I could get my hands on one.
I had heard good things about Samuel Smith’s so the I was expecting something nice and it delivered, nothing spectacular, but very nice. phobos1031 (71), Paradise, Nevada, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2008 Bottle. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted, malt, caramel. Flavour is malt, hop, caramel, roasted. Nice easy drinkable beer. DownsouthGav (601), Greater London, England
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 15, 2008 Bottle. Nose of malt and sugar. Pours a dark brown beer with nit much head. Taste is sugary with toffee and malt notes. Not much hops is present. I found this particular SS beer to be very bland indeed. A huge disappointment.
