clear dark amber, fine small light brown smooth head. dry caramel aroma, faint hops, faint nuts. delicate. flavor is only slightly sweet, caramel, nuts, somewhat dry, mild very tasty hops. a delciate beer, lots of flavor, but not very strong ones. i like it a lot.

One of the better nut browns out there by a brewery that has established itself as very good.

Pours a nice amber brown color, clear with a big billowy tan head, one does not always see a billowy tan head so often, so that’s cool I suppose. The smell that came while I was pouring was particularly bad very chemical and weird. This is not fully redeemed as it sits in the glass, immediately there is a character of green apple dominating the aroma somewhat muting the nice subtleties of the nutty malt character and the wood and the sweet malt. I can tell it should smell good, but the aroma falls a little flat on this one from me. The flavor is particularly better, leaving behind those apples and expressing the malt very nicely. This is a hair sweet but has plenty of the promised strong nuttiness, I really (for whatever reason) expected the nuttiness to be contrived here but it blends naturally into the beer with complimentary flavors of oakiness, some plum and some light whiskey. Like I said it seems a tad sweet, but it’s generally fairly balanced. Tasty indeed. Palate is a shade watery, but not to too much of a fault.

Pours a dark copper with a good solid frothy light brown head. Aromas of caramel, hazelnuts, whiskey, wood, cane sugar, touch of hops, and vanilla. Flavor is somewhat light but complex. It has some caramel, hazelnuts that play in balance with the hops and over power them. Lighter notes of wood, and some whiskey but not in an alcohol sort a way. Clean, slightly bitter, watery and sweet. A tasty brown in any case.

Time and time again i always pick up another couple of these. hazy brown/amber in colour, with a very generous head. sweet on the nose, very malty, hazelnuts, light coffee notes. almost warming as it went down, very drinkable. flavours of dark fruits, caramel, the hazelnuts, very sweet, bitterness is a little subtle. a good beer.

Crystal clear and gorgeous brown highlighted with streaks of amber if one looks near her sides and bottom. A huge light khaki head floats atop her liquid bread. Fading in rocky pockets, clumps of lace cling stubbornly while her nose reaches for me. Caramel, brown sugars, spice, toasted bread and freshly kneaded dough are topped by pecans and lightly caramelized pralines for a pleasing crunch. A breeze of freshly squeezed lemons tints her finish for crisp refreshment. I will never get tired of her nose no matter how many times I drink a Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale. My first quaff transports me immediately to England where I sit on a tired and worn stool, leaning comfortably upon my elbows that seem meant for the burnished counter which I am leaning upon. The bartender looks my way and I raise my pint in tribute as our eyes meet in silent understanding. Clean and crisp, lemon tingles on the tip-top of my tongue while butter and caramel lead the way for caramelized pralines and pecans. A hint of cinnamon is sprinkled on top and lingers in my breath. Thinly sliced and toasted brown bread gives a medium-weight and crunch to her already clean and crisp palate which could be attributed to many things, their water being one of them. Do not lightly take the importance of one’s water source in the brewing of beer. Each quaff keeps repeating itself in mouth-watering indulgence until there is none.

Will it create fireworks of eye-popping delight? Probably not. But it will satisfy each and every time and for that, I am always ever grateful. Contrary to the widely produced mass-marketed other English brown ale, if one wants real English brown ale, then look no further than Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale.

Bottle. Pours deep amber brown color with a thick foamy tan head. Malty sweet woody armoma with a hint of chocolate. Taste is malty with definite odd hop elements. It is slightly tart on the palate with a full nutty malty resonance going down
