I drank this brew wtih a friend named Samuel Smith which may have induced a biased opinion--we were rather excited about the finding of the Samuel Smith beers. Very solid beer though--distinct taste--thick but smooth. Coffee, caramel, hazlenut taste.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 1, 2010 550 mL Bottle. Deep copper body with a pale beige foamy head that settles to a thin but tenacious layer leaving good lace. Aroma of sweet malts, crystal malt, some resinous hops, and a grassy-floral note. Sweet, smokey, and toasted malts make up a nifty trio for the Flavor department. An ever-so-subtle touch of rum on the swallow followed by a rich malty-hazelnutty aftertaste, a little hint of toffey and smokey malts in the finish. Fine brew, Sam! scrizzz (1341), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Toffee color, strong full head. Medium roast aroma, not really ’nutty’. Some nuttiness in the sip, almond and hazelnut. Light, though roasty body. Still seems full. RC8 (44), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Bottled. Dark colour. Foamy tan head. This beer has a very particular feel to it; it flows very naturally but at the same time has a complex structure which makes you want to drink it slowly. I noticed flavours of oak and a somwhat metallic undertone. Excellent overall. WVHouseofBeer (392), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a decent sized tan head that lasted all the way through. Caramel and roasted nut aroma. Sweet flavors of caramel, roasted nuts and maybe a little bit of butterscotch? Another tasty beer from Samuel Smiths. OzarkElmo (135), Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Bottle pour into Sam Adams glass. Wow! Great, deep mahogony color - more reddish than brown. Small off-white head mostly diminishing. Lacing also diminishes with beer. Bready, caramel malt presence. Very smooth and even-bodied beer. I really enjoyed this beer! | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Bottle. Very good looking beer, nice mahogany pour with white head. Aroma is slightly nutty, some crisp malts. Same taste with a rather bitter finale. Decent mouthfeel, well carbonated for the style. KnN (754), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 9, 2009 Pours a nice deep clear brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma is "beer" a nit ofalt a bit of hop a little roast. Kind of midline between all the characteristics you can find in beer. Smooth a little toasty. Good beer.
