heavy (815), Split, Croatia May 31, 2009 0.55 l bottle my parents brought from London. It poured dark brown body with medium sized fluffy brownish head. Very nice aroma, coffee dominated, caramel, chocolate, some herbal spices. Coffee is dominating the flavor, too. It’s nicely balanced, slightly bitter and sweet, notes of chocolate, caramel, peat. Creamy and full bodied. Sweet finish. Best beer in tonight’s tasting, I may liked it more than Doggythedog did, but we both have too high expectations. Very good anyway, but for sure, not the best around. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia May 30, 2009 0.55l bottle courtesy of and shared with heavy (huge thanks!) Poured a black (extremely dark red) body with a fluffy tan head that collapsed unevenly at a medium pace. Weak oily roasty malty nose, notes of chocolate, some odd herbal notes too. The taste is sweetish and roasty, smoth chocolatey taste, finely balanced, light bitterness, weak vinuous notes, some smoke, light roasty aftertaste. Overall quite nice but neither the flashiest nor the tastiest beer around. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 26, 2009 A nice looking almost jet-black beer with a small tan head that dissipates. Smells great, like chocolate and burnt toast with some biscuitiness.. The flavor is a tad weeker, with some roasty notes but fairly watery. Mouthfeel not so chewy for a stout. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark May 26, 2009 Bottle, 5% at KØ09. Dark brown colour. Mild malty flavour, dark malt. Low bitterness. Good mouthfeel, nicely chewy, but the carbonation is a little high. Subtle but very nice. trapez (766), Hilleroed, Denmark May 22, 2009 Bottle. Malt and ripe fruits in aroma. Dark brown colour with light brown head. Sweet flavour with just discrete bitterness. The oats are probably there but not very easily deciphered. Very mild. tekhna (100), California, USA May 18, 2009 Updated: Jul 18, 2009A nice beer. What more is there to say about this beer, really? I didn’t get much oat out of it, and to my mind it’s not 99th percentile beer, but it’s good. I probably wouldn’t buy it again, because I prefer other stouts but for readily available stout it’s not a bad fallback. Block (363), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA May 16, 2009 Nice black pour with a cream tan head. Sweet caramel, chocolate and roasted malts aroma. Medium body with a slightly sour finish. Couldn’t taste much oat but a very good beer.
