Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Brown/Black pour. 2 finger light brown head. smells, well, like a stout. taste pretty dang good, Extremely smooth, and a nice thick creamy mouthfeel. Sweet, but not even close to being sickly. Taste like dark roasted coffee in the end for me. Hops shows up just enough to balance this one out. Nice Brew! i really like this one...

Poured from a 1 Pt. 2.7 fl oz. bottle. Looks coffee brown, with a low frothy cream-colored head. The aroma has a strong coffee overtone with some malt and smokiness. Smoother tasting that expected, with just the right carbonation. There is a pleasant domimance of oatmeal towards the end, which really seems to lighten the whole taste. I really enjoyed this stout.

Simply awesome! I had one at a bar about a year ago and it tasted slightly off. I gave it another chance the other night and was blown away. I’m assuming the one I had at the bar was just old. Pours a lovely thick, lingering head. Nice oat-y/nutty finish. Nearly a perfect stout.

Bottle. Heavy toasted and coffee aromas for the malt, light resin and dough for the hops and yeast, with hints of wood and brown sugar. Head is large, creamy, off-white with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is dark brown. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start and finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, watery but almost syrupy and has a lively carbonation. Well rounded and rich in flavor and aroma, a nice Stout.

Purchased 355ml bottle from Cellars Wine & Spirits in Shorewood, MN. Pours a clear dark brown brew with a thintan head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and ring. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some oatmeal, chocolate, a hint of berries and some toffee. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of toasted dark malt, some chocoalte, toffee, and a hint of coffee. Finish is semi-sweetitw h a mild toasted dark malt aftertaste.
