Oct 19, 2008 dark dark brown color, quickly disappearing tan head, nice lacing. sweet, sweet roasty malt aroma. flavor of dry fruit, sweet malt which, thankfully, is not very cloying. hint of roasty malt. oily smooth mouth feel, bitter sweet finish. a tad (caster) too sweet for me, but not an unappreciated brew.

Oct 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours darkest brown, lighter around the edges, with a fluffy tan head that dissipates into a creamy film. Nose is roasty, with some licorice, espresso, just a hint of dark fruit and even a whiff of oats in there also. Smooth and a bit sweet, without a hint of harshness. Taste is smooth and roasty, a hint of acidity, a nutty quality from the oats, hint of molasses, and a dry, espresso-like roastiness in the finish. Mouthfeel is silky smooth but light, with a subdued, light carbonation. Superbly balanced and drinkable offering perfectly in line with the generally stellar quality of other Sam Smith products.

Oct 17, 2008 The aroma is of very dark roasted barley. And a little alcohol. It pours black with a light brown sugar thick head. Thick beautiful laticework. The flavor is pretty good. Very malty but not overly sweet like a milk stout. Very balanced with a little bitterness. The mouthfeel is outstanding. Realy. It’s very smooth but it has a kinda...good grittiness on the tongue. I guess it might be called dry? I think that might be my favorite aspect of this beer ( the mouthfeel.)

Aroma of a campfire-aged, dark coffee and roasted malts Thick light brown foamy head whithering into quickly disspating lacings leaving a lingering smoky finish. Took a few tries with this one....bet I will come back for a "refresher" course!
