Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

550ml bottle - gotta love the nutrition you get from this! Very sweet with deep chocolate. Pours out nice thick dark with light mocha colored creamy head. Finishes lightly bitter but very long and sweet for the most part.

I absolutely love this stuff. This was the first oatmeal stout I ever had. It’s still the best I’ve ever had. This truly is a meal in a bottle. Nice, dark color with a small, creamy head. It’s sweet but not too sweet. The aftertaste is light yet lingers nicely. I buy these fairly often. Great beer by a great brewer! Still my favorite by them.

Poured thick and frothy with a nice creamy head. I found the aroma wanting but I may have a cold. Taste was good with a rich smoky roasted flavor. It’s a bit sweeter than I like but most Oatmeal Stouts are.

The best oatmeal stout I have ever had. Almost tastes like a Chocolate oatmeal cookie. Absolutely delightful. The girlfriend is a big fan too.

550ml bottle. Very dark opaque brown, with ruby edges. Tan frothy head that diminishes rather quickly, good lacing though. Hints of molasses, toasted nuts, and coffee in the aroma. Lively carbonation at first, yet smooth. Roasted oat, nutty, with a slight hint of coffee in the flavor. Creamy. Light bitter aftertaste with a lingering nut taste. Not as heavy as expected, I like it.

...bottle. I have to say, this is pretty good. Very smooth, velvety, with great balance. Dark, roasted malt notes, blended with the oatmeal, make it very tasty, and goes well with a nice steak. The finish is just enough to make you want more, worth a try, but it should be stronger to actually be a true stout.

Black with a grey head. Sweet aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Very balanced flavours - relatively low on bitterness and dominated by roasted malts and cherry.

Pours black with long-lived, cream-colored head. Scent is sweet chocolate, licorice, and fruit. The flavor is also sweet, almost sickly, with roasted oats and chocolate and fruit. A great balance is throughout the nose and flavor. The creamy palate perfectly compliments the well-rounded smooth taste. A sweet finish to a very nice beer.
