Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Sampled at Pints for Pets. Pours a dark brown color with a light creamy head. The nose is sort of grainy and roasted, but has a bit of wet dog. Lots of oatmeal in the taste. The flavor is ok, but I was definitely disappointed. A sort of bittersweet molasses flavor. A decent body, but I thought it was a little thin.

A deep black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roated malt and biscuit. Flavor is a touch of sweetness with that roasted malt. A nice finish, good beer.

nice and dark with a rich tan head. slightly sweet with a rich coffee and mapo nose. some kind of fruit and nut combo with a touch of lacing and body out the wazoo. For wat it is it is nearly flawless.

12 oz bottle...poured very dark brown w/ a frothy tan head that yielded some lacing. The nose was malt, light coffee, toasted almonds. The flavors were light coffee, toasted nuts, cocoa. The palate was great. Not a heavy beer, with a quick, dry "tosted nut" flavor. Excellent!

Bottle, Roasted malty aroma with a plum tinge. Fizzy head, off white in color. Fully diminishing head. Blackish amber color. Sweet initial flavor, medium body with a lively carbonation. Definitely over priced for what you get. Goose island or Bell’s will serve you much better.
