Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours black with a huge tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee. Flvaor is slightly sweet and roasty. Full body with minimal carbonation and silky, creamy mouthfeel. This goes down sooo easily I find myself through the bottle in no time. Excellent stout.

Bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a large lasting beige head. Aroma is semi-sweet at roasty---coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, and some bits of dark fruit. Flavor is caramel, dark fruit, cherry, a slight fruity tartness/sourness, roast malt, hint of earthy hops. Velvety but slightly thin mouthfeel. A great oatmeal stout, if a bit odd by the standards of others in the style.

Dark black, minimal carbonation. Strong, off white head that sustains. Thick lacing. Coffee, caramel, roasted nose. Effortless first taste - incredibly smooth, full-bodied of course, and a sweet aftertaste. Rich and creamy, very fulfilling.

pours well looks great and the flavor is 1st rate. A well desirved 4.0this is the 2nd time I have tried it. Great winter beer as well. I say this and probably as most Americans have served it too chilled.

What a stout! Pours black with a nice foamy, tan head. Faint coffee-like aroma. Underneath the toasted malt, coffee flavor one expects from a stout is a slight fruity flavor, like blueberries or rasberries. Just a great complex flavor that isn’t overwhelming. Goes down very smooth.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is mildly roasted, as is the flavor with a pleasant sweetness coming through. Very good overall.

The more stout’s I consume, the more it appears they are my brew. This is a delightful brew. It has a nice malty aroma. It is classically dark. It’s a full figured brew. It’s flavor is just awesome. It’s supra smooth, MEGA flavored with notes of very mild sweetness. This is so super smooth, it’s a marvel.

Nose is malty caramel and bitter roast. Dark redish charcoal black, not quite opaque with a nice head with some retention, light lacing. Flavor is very nice, somewhat complex blend of the lightest fruitiness, dark malts, and good bitterness for balance with a medium dry finish. Mouthfeel is silky and nice, very drinkable. Overall a very nice beer that show cases everything roasted barley and dark malts can be.
