Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

(3/14/08) Bottle bought at De Bierkoning and drank at a friends’ house in Amsterdam. Black with medium light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, some oatmeal and some coffee notes. Sweet malty flavor with oatmeal and some drier roasted tones. Medium bodied and a smooth creamy mouthfeel. A good, well-made stout.

Pours an opaque black. When holding my glass up to the light all I could see was a faint amount of light coming through the bottom. Relatively thick brew, but still manages to go down smooth. Has a great flavor that I hope to enjoy again and again.

Truly an excellent stout. Distinct flavor that you don’t grow tired of. Toffee and bitter chocolate. Mysterious and playful.

Perfect brew in my opp. 3,5 euro for a top brew. Beautiful dark-brown colour with a nice head. Sweet light-roasted smell with hints of bread. Big mouth fill, the oats really add the extra dimension. Aroma of burnt coffee, malt and aged wine! Has a very slight sour finish in the flavour which gives a wine like touch. Amazing what you can get out og just 5% alc. The Sam Smith brew imp.

Lightly sweet taste to it not too strong. Lighter bodied. Can’t really taste the oatmeal part of it but I still enjoy it.

Bottle poured into pint glass- poured very dark brown/black, nice light tan formed, medium carbonation, aroma of roasted malt, dark caramel, with notes of coffee and brown sugar. Hits the mouth with a full and wide body, sort of just glides down your mouth which is interesting, malt comes through cleanly and there is plenty of it, finish is full and has a note of sweetness. Very drinkable.

Pours black with a huge tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee. Flvaor is slightly sweet and roasty. Full body with minimal carbonation and silky, creamy mouthfeel. This goes down sooo easily I find myself through the bottle in no time. Excellent stout.
