Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Out of the typical 550ml bottle. I used to sit and pick off the gold foil years ago, to get a clean feel of the bottle mouth when I drank these straight out of the bottle like a fool. Into a chilled 24oz mega mug. Pours a super nice dark brown, almost black, with a good head that lasts pretty much the whole time in the mug. Smells of sweet chocolate, flows silky smooth with a long sweet after taste, not bitter at all realy. One of the sweeter, easier to drink stouts, out in the single bottle market, for many ears now.

18 oz Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Sweet taste. Oatmeal flavor is very apparent, but not overpowering. I will definitely buy this again.

Bottle. Pours black with a thick, creamy pale tan head with stunning lacing. Nose is big roast malt, chocolate, and a certain creamy character that must be attributed to the oats. In the mouth this beer feels amazing, silken, roasty, a bit nutty, not the most complex stout, but an immensely enjoyable one.

Bottle from the Majestic at Eastchase. Great taste. Oatmeal is obvious, but not overbearing.

Bottle. Pours dense, dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, oats, and roasted walnuts. Firm, crispy body with a great finish. Tasty stout.
