Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours deep chocolate with substantial caramel head that clings to glass. Smells of sweet caramel with oats and some nuttiness. Delightfully light, not as creamy as I anticipated. As close to perfect for my palate as possible. Delicate balance of sweetness and bitterness. This one goes down all too smoothly.

550 ml. into English pint glass. Pours nearly black with thick head. Aroma of chocolate, toffee, and oats. Very smooth beer. Sweet slides nicely into bitter. A classic.

550ml. into pint glass. Pours really dark with a healthy head that is foamy and tan (color resembles latte foam) and recedes pretty quickly. It smells of oats and other traditional stout aromas (wheat, molasses, dark fruit, etc.). Palate is pleasing and simple; it has a light feel for its appearance, and it is also smooth and a bit sticky on the palate. The flavor is not really complex; it is simple but makes for a sturdy stout. Great safety beer.

Pours a dark color with a medium size brown head. Subtle aroma of malt and chocolate. Has a watery consistency with hints of what should really be in a stout. Not a bad beer, but really this beer just isn’t that great of a stout.

Pours very dark with tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Smooth and creamy on the palate. Went down very smooth, got better as I drank it.

I had high hopes for this beer. Pour is a nice brown/ black with a good sized tan head. Not too powerful aroma, some alcohol and roasted coffee. The flavor is just not there for me. It has a very light, watery consistency for a stout. There is some oatmeal and coffee, but the poster below me was right, there is no "wow" factor. Might be a good entry level stout.

Pours very dark with a good inch of tan head. Smells like a roasted port wine, which is odd for the low ABV... Extremely smooth with a thin consistency... Very subtle oatmeal chocolaty taste with a thin overtone of roasted coffee that settles to a very mild coffee aftertaste... I think i was expecting more from such a highly rated brew.
