Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Nearly black with a fairly thin tan head. Very rich, toasty flavor and rather filling. Aroma reminds me slightly of licorice. Finishes bitter and slightly chocolatey. Very solid oatmeal stout.

A dark brown to black beer with a 2 finger head. Aroma was fruity,& slightly roasty. The taste was silky in the mouth. Do I taste oatmeal? It is a good beer.

Poured from a 1pt bottle into a glass pint. The color is A very deep dark black with a light brown foamy head. The smell is of chocolate, a little toffee and roasted malts The taste is smooth, creamy, a malty flavor is very deep in the background with a toffee tone. This beer is quite smooth. Goes down real nice and is one the best stouts I’ve had. The overall feel is strong but does not overpower.

Single bottle into an English pint glass. Creamy and delicious - absolutely one of my standby oatmeal stouts.

A very good stout. Looks good and has a nice aroma. Not quite up to the standards of the Stone Imperial Russian or the Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti but pretty darn good. Then again it contains half the alcohol and has a much thinner mouthfeel. But still worth a try by all means.

The aroma is lovely, I could spent days just smelling this beer. It looks like other stouts, but the oatmeals make the difference. Lovely and great

Pours out lighter than expected, a dark tawny with a decent viscosity. A quick rush of bubbles stretches the thick khaki head farther into the near black body. The head sits atop calm and frothy, lasting the whole glass, and leaving a bit of slippery lace. The aroma is very roasty, with a little bit of chocolate, an some toffee. The flavor is sweet and milk chocolaty at first, then seamlessly fades into a coffee rich dryness. The mouthfeel is a little on the light side, but is as smooth and glass and retains in the mouth very well. Top notch stout.
