Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours out lighter than expected, a dark tawny with a decent viscosity. A quick rush of bubbles stretches the thick khaki head farther into the near black body. The head sits atop calm and frothy, lasting the whole glass, and leaving a bit of slippery lace. The aroma is very roasty, with a little bit of chocolate, an some toffee. The flavor is sweet and milk chocolaty at first, then seamlessly fades into a coffee rich dryness. The mouthfeel is a little on the light side, but is as smooth and glass and retains in the mouth very well. Top notch stout.

Very handsome in the glass...a dark brown pour that settles into a deeper black with some ruby highlights. The head is long-lasting, dark tan in colour, and retains some very impressive lacing throughout the entire pint. I could detect very little smell at first, but as this warmed up, i could get some chocolate, coffee, and considerable nutmeg traces. This is a very malty, balanced beer whose taste centers mostly on cereal-like flavours and is rounded out by some subtle coffee and roasted barley. The finish is semi-sweet, contains hints of cacao, and has a nice dry feeling.

lets not actually rate this beer. This beer is like a swedish super model, Beautiful, sexy, and overwelming. This beer poors like niagara falls, the most beautiful site. It pours smooth, almost as smooth as the quaker oats man himself. this BEER is like your first crush, mysterous, beautiful, and wanting, and when you first taste her, you dont know what to think but the love of your life. Almost like your favorite celebrity sitting naked in front of you. Smooth like a babys butt like they say, smooth like a babies butt. Just like in Old Greg on youtube, "Baileys, as close as you can get without your eyes gettin wet".

pUrchased a 750 ml at La Mesa,CA BevMo for about 4 dlls . Really good, i think its quite strong fro just 5% like it reads, anyway mm really dark opaque brown color, really coffee-like thing white a very big and porous beige head, taste a lot like a Guinness, didnt notice quite much diference between a an oatmeal and a Barley stout .however really nice light-toasted and sweet aroma.

Bottle. Dark chocolate brown with a tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit. The flavor is sweet with a light roasty bitterness. Full body with a decent amount of carbonation to lighten it up and a long dry finish. This is a great beer that first got me into stouts way back when, it’s just as good as I remember it.
