Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Bottle: Poured with a gloriously cascading wall of bubbles that piled into a nice solid milkshake-like tan top over a dark brown glass of goodness. Unfortunately, the aroma is scant, and the flavor is pretty much restrained ... a light roast flavor is the predominate character with perhaps a light chocolate tinge. Good, but not as good as I’d hoped.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Dark brown - big offwhite head. Burned, roasted, raisins, chokolate, sweet. Good but not enough power.

(Bottled) Almost black with a smallish, tanned, lasting and lacy head. Very roasty-licoricey, sweetish oatmeal-porridge aroma with a hint of smoked oakiness. Sweetish, very malty, salty-licoricey flavor, with ashy hints in the lingering, mildly roasty and bitter finish. Medium-bodied, somewhat sticky-syrupy palate with pretty low carbonation. A very nice and tasty, balanced stout - especially for the ABV. I wish all British brews were this tasty...

Pitch black with creamy brown head. Roasted malts - nice chocolate/caramel & coffee. Both aroma and taste - very enjoyable. Smooth pleasant creamy body & mouthfeel. Light bitter roast end. Overall quite simple - but very nice!

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Subtle oats and a nice smooth lightly roast y body that is thin and session able. Overall a nice mass production oatmeal stout. Never a bad choice for a simple oatmeal stout.

Poured a dark brown, almost opaque color with a medium sized light tan head. Sweet dark fruit and oatmeal aroma with some slight alcohol. Very creamy mouthfeel, with roasted malt, chocolate, and oatmeal. This was the start of it all for me. I could drink this all day!

Sweeter than normal, I like it! A slight metalic taste, but I'm thinking that was just this bottle.
