Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Jet-black body and the filthiest caramel head you’ve ever seen in your life. An intoxicating gust of whiskeyish toffee. The texture of a full-cream Guinness original milkshake. Except nowhere near as vile. Oaty black custard with a bitterly coffeeish finish. Just want it to go on and on. What more can you say? Bonus point for bottling it by the English pint (almost). Approaching perfection. 848517 RERATE Utterly pitch with an undulating beige collar going nowhere. Surprisingly sticky sweet sherry, prune and BlackJack aroma dusted with iron and background roast. Sweetly roasted flavour oozing sherry, liquorice and choc spread on burnt toast. Not the big roasty treat I remember, just a fine silky sweet stout. 474715

Pours thick, rich, and virtually opaque. Cappucino-colored head. Smokey aroma that gives way to a similarly smokey flavor. Also aroma of chocolate, prunes, and figs. Flavors also include chocolate-covered raisins. Lots of cocoa. There is a silken smooth richness to this robust stout. Nice bitterness in the aftertaste makes it delicious!

12oz. Bottle: Aroma is lightly sweet. Smells of roasting, malts, a little cream, and chocolate. Poured black in color with a large, creamy, brown head that lasted throughout. Small lacing. Opaque. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malts, chocolate, oats, and roasting. Very well balanced. Medium, silky body. Soft carbonation. Dryish lightly sweet, lightly bitter, malty-chocolate finish. Overall, a very good sweet stout.

Smooth, creamy, everything you’d expect in an oatmeal stout. Try it over ice cream (no, really).

Smooth but thin, flavorful but with a titch of metallic taste. Substantial but soon-gone head, appearance of coca-cola carbonation. An enjoyable drink but not overwhelming in any dimension.

An Oatmeal raisin cookie recipe in a bottle. I love this stuff, and would be more than happy to drink it all the time. Has the appearance of a coffee liquer, with a bit of a malty coffee taste, but smooth right up till the end.
