Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

A nice dark and thick oatmeal stout. First ordered this (a bottle) after giving up on Foster’s on draft at a bar in Miami. Typical burnt, chocolate, and coffee aromas and flavor. Seemed thinner than other stouts, but still enjoyable. Enjoyed more on draft in May 2005 and bumped rating up a tad.

Bottle – Poured a pitch-black brew with a nice dark foamy head. Aroma is very sweet with linger of maltness. Taste is very sweet with some coffee and chocolate. No strong aftertaste or bitterness. This is a very creamy, easy beer. You can go wrong with that oatmeal stout if you’re a fan of the style.

Pours with a dark brown to black body with red tinting topped by a thick lasting tan head with good lacing. Slightly sweet and roasty malt aroma with subtle chocolate notes and a very slight hoppiness. Sweet and slighlty chocolaty malt flavor wtih a touch of roastiness and a little bitterness. The finish is roasty with a touch of hoppiness. Full bodied, a little chewy but smooth.

Doesn’t have the burnt bitterness of the dry stouts, but it has the other flavors typical off a stout. I like it, but it doesn’t floor me.

(BJCP Class) Awesome smooth, creamy nice overall flavor. Great color and a nice aroma. Good fruity but was a slight Dyacetyl. Just need to know what in a clear bottle everything is almost perfect why would they still use a clear bottle when they know it hurts the beer?
