Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Dark in color.Delicious brew. Has a nice roasted smell. Really flavorful. Starts out sweet then finishes with a bitter roasted malt flavor.

50 cl. bottle pours a black fluid with a decent brown head. Has a malted chocolate and coffee smell. Medium bodied with a nice smooth mouthfeel. Taste is of dark roasted malts and sweet grain oatmeal. Very drinkable and tasty. One of the best Stouts around before the Craft brew revolution and still good in this day and age. Glad to know that some things don’t change.

pours a dark clack color w/ a big tan head that laces well Smells a tad skunky and yeasty at first but that goes away as it warms then the carmel malts come out a long w/ a light wheaty/oaty aroma. Palate is rich lightly creamy and nicely carbonated. flavor is pretty palin a light carmel malt a touch acidic and a little hop in the finish w/ a touch of grain. Overall pretty solid but lacking in my mind for an oatmeal.

Nice opaque black color, small medium tan head that had a pretty good staying power, mild lacing.Malty hoppy aroma.Sweet malt taste, maybe a mild dried fruit presence along with a decent amount of hop's.The after taste was sweet and malty and fairly long lastingthere was also a slight sour taste to this brew that was in the middle of the tasting. It's an ok brew nothing special IMO but well worth trying again. This one might just be highly light struck and getting a little skunked out.
