Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Delicious! 3rd beer from Sam Smiths and each time a try a new one I can’t understand why I don’t drink more of them. Pour was a thick dark brown with a thin ring head that went POOF and disappeared. The aroma was sweet malt. The taste was roasted malt, oatmeal and chocolate with a thin mouthfeel and sweet aftertaste. As this beer warms up, it just gets better and better.

This beer pours a nearly black with hug tannish, creamy head. Sweet roasted malt aromas, some coffee, though not much. Fruit flavor, with more of the roast, leaving a nice coffee and buttery taste in the mouth. Very creamy and smooth finish. A very fine stout.

Pours a nice black with a brown head. Aroma is very sweet like whip cream. Flavor is roasty malt and chocolate. This needs to be a little stronger in flavor and bitterness. in my opinion Its very sweet and sliky. Good but not great.

Clear bottle - looks nice but wtf?) Pours dark brown - almost opaque with a few brick highlights when held to light. Tan colored head diminishes slowly to a ring of bubbles around the rim. Aroma is delightful, dark roasty malts, sweet chocolate and coffee notes and a distinct floral hop presence. Flavor is nicely bitter, slightly sour with hints of sweetness, charcoal and a dry finish. Medium body, creamy carbonation. A nice beer overall.

[550ml bottle.] Opaque reddish brown body with a soft creamy cream head; rich roasted malt and chocolate aroma, slightly smokey; silky smooth texture with a bagfuls of roasted malts giving a complex mingling of flavours - nuts, smoke, toffee, chocolate, coffee and fruit are all there; well rounded sweet finish with a definite oaty feeling. An excellent stout.

Great big frothy tan head which settles like a guinness. Very little carbonation. Awesome color of dark brown. Arome of chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is very smooth with dark chocolate and grains present. Slight iron taste also. Finish is creamy and smooth with a slight lingering bitter finish. Also not much alcohol present for a stout. A decent stout and one I would recomend for someone who does not like big thick hearty stouts as the beer is a decent but thin consistency.

Abyssal dark color, pours with a dark tan head, sweet cacao, vanilla, mocha and fruity aromas follow through a smooth medium-bodied palate, with roasted coffee, vanilla, hint of dark fruits in a mild bitter roasted chocolate dry finish.

Bottle. Good pour, nearly opaque with a thin loose beige head. Nose is sweet and malty. Taste is very, very smooth with notes of carmel, coffee and roasted hops. Finish is very slightly bitter and smokey. The most amazing thing about this beer is how smooth it is for a sweet stout. This is a very good beer, but I don't think that it is better than Young's Oatmeal Stout.
