Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours dark black with large brown creamy head. Very good. Odd that it is in a clear bottle. This beer goes down very smoth. A++

Always a solid choice - Nice dark pour with a plentiful tan head. Aroma is roasty with some choco/coffee. Smooth and flavorful with lots of coffee, roast, and a bit of licorice.

Umm good. From bottle. Poured dark brown with nice tan head. Aromas are to die for. I don’t think I have had any beer better on the palate. Compex flavors, and the last drop is as good at the first. This beats US tap poured Guinness by a mile. Jast as advertised, with a bittersweet finish. The best beer I have tasted to date.

Ahh finally a beer worth talking about!! Very nice example of the style. Pours a dark body, brownish/black colour, with a bubbly, frothy brownish head that leaves a nice lace on the glass. Aromas are slight coffee, sweet malt, mild chocolate, and a slight bitterness that leaves this brew’s aroma quite complex. Taste is distinctively sweet, strange for the style, but suits nicely! Also present are oats, sweet caramel malts, and espresso mildly accompanies. Leaves a nice throat tingle, with a smooth finish overall. Well done Mr.Smith’s!

A very nice pour with a nice thick head, I didn’t detect much aroma (not like I do most stouts). I’ve consumed this beverage many times and have just gotten around now to rate it. A very nice "blue collar" stout that won’t leave you guessing what you drank. Chocolate, oatmeal and some coffee notes make this a very nice beer. Well done by the Brits who do three things real well...Beer, Acting and Rock N Roll.

You can quote the description for this and add that the aroma and flavor. Aroma is sweet cocoa, with some roasted grains. Flavor has lots of oatmeal with some coffee and a strange sweetness maybe the butterscotch a few have mentioned. Slight hops detectable in finish.

(Bottle) Pours dark with a beautiful deep red shimmer. Light brown, big head. Light roasted aroma of milk chocolate and cocoa. Malt also brings some caramel. Undertones of stone, roasted nuts, suede, sweet liquorice, vanilla, birch twigs and black currant. Good malt blend flavour wise, with tones of cocoa, caramel and some hints of coffee dryness. Some milky notes are also present. Light acid. Velvety and round mouthfeel with a soft carbonation. Aftertaste is also a bit acid with bigger notes of coffee. Light dry finish. Medium body.
