Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Bouteille claire de 550 ml de HogTownHarry. Brun très foncé, bon collet. Arome plaisant de malte roti avec un soupson de caramel. Très bon goût malt chocolaté, un peu de caramel et un arrière goût de petit fruit.

(3/14/08) Bottle bought at De Bierkoning and drank at a friends’ house in Amsterdam. Black with medium light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, some oatmeal and some coffee notes. Sweet malty flavor with oatmeal and some drier roasted tones. Medium bodied and a smooth creamy mouthfeel. A good, well-made stout.

Pours black with a nice light brown head. Aroma of lightly roasted malt. Taste has notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and mocha. Perfect amount of sweetness. Lightly roasty aftertaste. Medium body but pretty creamy on the palate. Really nice stout.

This was a very enjoyable beer. Very smooth to the palate. Mellow carbonation, very dark, great flavor. Sweet with dark roast creamy flavors. Will buy again.

Bottle 0,55l. Pitch black. A pretty creamy head. Aroma of coffee. Well balanced. Outstanding - but served too cold at Princess Louise London WC1

Bottle. Pours a dark black with a very nice, thick tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, roast, coffee. Flavor is super sweet, with lots of oatmeal, and some roasted malts. The first time I had this I really enjoyed it, but this time I found it too artificially sweet. Ok beer, but I’m not impressed. Palate is a little watery too.

Nice head after pour. Smells great, and beautiful dark color. Goes down smooth with a great flavor.

550ml bottle at the Princess Louise, 15th August 2008. Near black with a brown tint. Beige head that leaves good lacing. Nose of oats and cream. Full bodied and creamy with a smooth, roasted malt flavour. Good but not quite excellent.
