Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

wow. Very pleasant stout. Not too sweet, not too bitter. Not too strong, but of imposing character. Deep and rich warm caramel flavors with scents that envelop the senses and ring in the ears. Simply awesome.

Glorious accomplishment of a beer. Wonderful aroma of malt present on top of a darker than normal brownish head that laced out nicely. Beautiful black body. Taste nearly knocked my socks off, not too strong, but a wonderful taste from a dark beer. Oatmeal was slightly prevalent in the taste. This has to be one of the top three beers that I have ever had!

bk-lct, thick foamy tan head, full body, ^co2,

aroma: sweet-malt oat fresh-hop,

taste:
T1 oat sweet-dark-malt
T2 hop-bitter ^nutty
T3 nutty-oat §brownie-crust
Tf §toasted,
metallic note threatens but doesn’t surface.
sipper (due to co2 & body) but ^session.
this really needs a large 22oz mug and a vigorous pour.

Aroma is apple pie and vanilla. Pours very dark reddish brown, with a brown head. Well balanced hops, dark roasted malts, soy sauce. Finish is apple core that lasts just the right amount. Perfectly balanced with good complexity. Absolutely delightful.
