Goes down smooth with a surprisingly sweet aftertaste. One of the best stouts I’ve had. DownsouthGav (601), Greater London, England

Notes of coffee and chocolate. Silky texture, roasted malts are abundant. Sweet with some bitterness mild taste to sweet again. For me the archetypal stout and good reason for lauding Samuel Smith’s. joshiez (48), USA

But this is heavenly. Tastes good no matter what your eating...as a matter of fact, my first taste was at a sports bar. It’s just a damn good sweet beer. alari (30), London, Greater London, England

Beautiful creamy stout, if you can get it served at the right temperature. Demerara sugar, heavy roasted malt flavours are balanced by the complex creaminess and perfectly juged (i.e. not overpowering) hops at the end. Surprisingly easy to drink, and somehow slightly refreshing at the same time.
With a clean glass free of detergent, the thin beige head stays right to the end.
To top it off, the 500ml bottle has a beautiful label. jetboy (32), USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Poured a dark, dark brown with a beautiful tan head that lasted longer than the beer with huge lacing. A malty aroma that literally filled the room. This beer filled you mouth and excited your taste buds with maltiness. This beer has turned me on to oatmeal stouts which I rarely drank before. However, this has excited me to try more. Rogue chocolate stout will be next. Cirrhosis (623), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The smell was amazing deep roasted malts, chocolate chip cookies, and coffee rise up from my glass, making my mouth drool. Bitter coffee and chocolate malts give the beer the perfect balance of taste a bitterness. The mouth feel is full but maybe a touch chalky but no matter how I see it is amazing. I taste roasted marshmallows in the finish and a bitter dark chocolate after taste is left lingering in your mouth. Simply an a amazing stout, this has restored my faith in stouts that has been dwindling lately. REDBOSOX (70), Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, USA

It’s still the best I’ve ever had. This truly is a meal in a bottle. Nice, dark color with a small, creamy head. It’s sweet but not too sweet. The aftertaste is light yet lingers nicely. I buy these fairly often. Great beer by a great brewer! Still my favorite by them. subcell (95), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA

This beer pored nicely and smelled nice as well. The taste was very nice. It didn’t have the burnt flavor I expected. Highly recommended for fans of stout.
