Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Black and topped with an enourmous tan head, the nose of this fine brew pours out of the glass with a strong chocolate brandyish aroma. Dark sweet chocolate pervades the taste with lingering bitterness in finish. Soft and full mouthfeel and very drinkable considering its full-flavored nature. One of the best Sweet Stouts.

This is the best Oatmeal Stout I've ever tasted! It is most excellent. I guess I've been lucky in that I've yet to have one that has gone bad. The head is beautiful, the taste sublime, the color is gorgeous, mouthfeel is just right and the carbonation is glorious going over the tongue. What more can be said?

This one followed a Duvel last night and as such was consumed in that eponymous glass. It presents beautifully with its deep blackness and creamy head. The nose is a lovely chocolate and roasted malts, followed by the simliar flavour. what commends this beer even more however is the thickness of the mothfeel, almost chewy and therefore evoking memories of Uncle Toby’s in the morning. Beautifully balanced and an absolute delight to drink.

Very nice stout. Not as heavy as some, but I wouldn't want to drink more than one or two in a sitting. Extremely smooth, nice chocolatey stout. Very well made brew. Highly recommended.

Wow. Great tan creamy head that lasts forever, leaving a thick lacing on the side of the glass. Rich full flavored beer, with a great smooth taste sweeter than other stouts I've had but retains the same classic characteristics of other great stouts. The oatmeal taste is detectable yet subtle and finishes with hints of chocolate and a fine bitterness which is complemented nicely by the sweetness. A must try!

What an awsome brew! Dark chocoalte in color with a tall, frothy, tan head that mostly stays with you until the beer is gone. Aroma is of caramel and malt with a dark semi-sweet chocolate and lingering oat nose. Flavor starts out with sweet chocolate and mocha with oats in the background and then finishes bittersweet. Palate is dark yet creamy, very smooth, velvety. The lacing hangs out just above the beer line.

A fine beer with a nice dark color, light brown head, strong aroma with hint of oatmeal/ coffee. Full taste and nice stout feel. A great beer to spend the money on.

Loved this beer. Rich malty aroma with hints of fruit. Nice balanced beer, medium dry finish.
