Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

You can almost taste the oats in your mouth. I swear I had to pick one out of my teeth. Damn good stuff; even if you don’t like stouts, give this one your attention.

This is a standard. One of the best beers readily available in this puritan land we call NC

Bitter sweet flavor/finish. Big creamy head. Just the right amount of carbonization. Very good.

Pours BLACK! Small short head. Roasted and toasted to the max. Vanilla? Excellent creamy mouthfeel. Not overly bitter, well balanced. Top notch for someone who isn’t a big Stout fan.

This beer is very good, but it lacks head and mouth feel. The beer is more like a Double Bock than a Stout.. Just my opinion.. The beer is very thin for a stout.

Still one of the best stouts in the world. Great for stout-lovers and very good for all other drinkers!

re-rating - 1st bootle was skunky and I had to pour it down the drain (@#&$%clear bottles), but if you get it fresh it is wonderful, one of my favorites - inviting aroma, smooth, malty sweet, but not cloying, enough bitter for balance
