Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Bottled. I was skeptical about buying this because of the clear bottle and worrying that it would be another skunky drain pour. I was wrong and it was absolutely delicious. It had a delicious coffee aroma and an even better coffee and butter taste. It was a really nice sweet stout. I will definitely buy this again.

Oh - now this IS an oatmeal stout. This is what beer drinking is all about. I kept watching the glass get lower and lower, expecting the wonderful taste and aroma to end, but it simply blew my mind how fantastic it was! An absolute must for any beer drinker.

Man, this is what stout should be. Forget that Guinness dry stout crap. Mocha and roasted malt on the nose foreshadows the flavors you’re about to encounter. Talk about smooth and creamy? This is the epitome of smooth and creamy. Mocha and roasted malt flavors and creamy texture do battle with neither coming out ahead, which is a good thing. Smooth character with interacting flavors just feels great in the mouth. Smooth chocolate finish leaves a pleasant aftertaste that doesn’t linger too long. Exquisite and a new favorite.

Sweet start....very rich, smooth body....a very nice, well balanced finish. One of the best sweet stouts available anywhere.

Very roasty stout. Quite sweet, very nice head. I can’t recognize the oatmeal, but what the hell it got so many other strong points!
