Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

dark & smooth, it has a sweetness to it, a coffee taste as well. Really dark beer. Simply one of my favorites

As delicious as a beer can get. I’ve only had two oatmeal stouts in my life (Young’s is still my fave) but Sam Smith has created a delighful drinking experience with this one. Hershey’s syrup and Caramilk flavours in a beer? Yes, and it works because it’s not actually ’sweet.’ Thick and wholesome ... I would love a lifetime supply of this stuff.

ME LIKE BEER, THIS BEER GOOOD!!! So thick you can’t see through it with a flashlight, but light a creamy down the hatch.

Complex nose. Good course head. Smooth, Sweet choclatety taste. A little too sweet for my liking, but overall a great beer.

One of my favorite beers, a little more bitter than I usually like. Doesn't go well with roast beef.

Poured a dark brown, almost opaque color with a medium sized light tan head. Sweet dark fruit and oatmeal aroma with some slight alcohol. Very creamy mouthfeel, with roasted malt, chocolate, and oatmeal. This was the start of it all for me. I could drink this all day!

Deep dark brown appearance with a small head. Terrific aroma of coffee and rich, bittersweet chocolate. Sweet roasted malt taste with a very smooth, medium-to-full bodied mouthfeel. Nice bitter, somewhat nutty, finish.
