Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

WOW!!!Dark, mahogany appearace with complex, vinous, aromas of oats, stone, iron, nuts, and HUGE roastiness. The silky looking body has a head worth putting on a mantle. The flavors match the aromas perfectly, and are just as complex.Oily, resiny, palate with a semi-dry finish.Finish loses dryness and gains caramelly, nutty, goodness. What could be better than this,as far as style?

Nice frothy head, smooth flavor and creamy mouthfeel. Try serving with frosted miniwheats instead of chips or pretzels.

The best English oatmeal stout I have tasted. Very smooth and roasty tasting with just enough bite. Not oily tasting like alot of English oatmeal stouts. Delicous!

Deep brown/black with gorgeous ruby flashes when held up to the light, and a soft mocha head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, sweeted coffee and roasted oats. Silky, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet chocolate malted flavour, with a perfectly balanced bitterness in the finish. Mmmmmmm!

Why put such a beautiful beer in a clear bottle? What a crime...couldn’t tell at the store because the beer is so dark. Seemed a little thin--on texture but not on flavor. Overall this is excellent; it is hard to beat a good sweet stout. I can taste the oatmeal in this one. I wish I could think of more superlatives but this is damn near perfection.

Pours dark brown, almost black, with decent sized pillowy brown head. Great retention. Deep lovely sweet aroma of coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Absolute silk in the mouth. Brilliant feel and body. Subtle sweet initial tastes of caramel and chocolate. Slightly roast finish, with a hint of coffee. Absolutely brilliant.

(Bottle) Pours a nice rocky beige head with a opaque black body. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Tastes malt and strong cocoa and finishes incredibly smooth and milky. Absolutely lovely, darling!
