Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

One of my favorites so far. I don't have much experience with oatmeal stouts, but this beer was exceptional. Nice color, aroma, head, and lacing. The flavor was mellow and very slightly sweet. Could stand up to strong flavored food nicely, and would go well with beef. Would suggest even to non-stout drinkers.

Bottle: Pours very dark brown with a tan lasting head. Very smooth taste and great mouth feel. Aroma: chocolate, coffee. Flavor: Roasted malts, toffee, oatmeal, some sweetness, finishes with just a hint of bitterness. This is my favorite Sweet Stout/Oatmeal Stout. I highly recommend this beer to anyone.

[bottle] Pours a deep black with a nice thick tan head. Aroma of sweetness mixed with coffee. Wonderful initial taste of sweet with various other flavors mixed in. Mouthfeel of liquid silk. Wonderfully smooth and semi-sweet finish.

very dark color, almost like the sexy satin underwear of your lover. dark brown body with temporary tan, but whiter than most stouts, head. now that i stare at the beer more intently its body is more of that of a fine ebony baby girl wearing thin lacey panties. the taste begins with a sweet oatmeal and finishes pleasantly bitter and rich. wonderful aroma of a bowl of oatmeal and cherries.

Extremely dark. Lets a glimpse of light through. Moderate, lasting head with tightly clinging lacing. Chocolatey coffee malt nose one should experience instead of try to describe. Silky smooth mouthfeel, almost don't want to swallow. Roasted malt, caramelly, slightly fruity finish with English hop flavor in finish. Sweet, delicious beer nirvana. NOT overrated. Truly a rewarding beer drinking experience.

Fantastic. Beautiful to the eyes with its dark brown body and creamy tan head. The aroma is like mocha. The taste is wonderful. Rich and creamy, chocolate, buttery, slight coffee, full and rewarding. The finish is smooth as silk and leaves you wanting more.

Umm good. From bottle. Poured dark brown with nice tan head. Aromas are to die for. I don’t think I have had any beer better on the palate. Compex flavors, and the last drop is as good at the first. This beats US tap poured Guinness by a mile. Jast as advertised, with a bittersweet finish. The best beer I have tasted to date.

Poured a very dark brown, almost black colour, with a foamy, tan coloured head, which soon settled down. Slightly sweet, roast aroma. Great creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. Balanced oatmeal, chocolate, burnt taste. Light bitter finish. Excellent.
