Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Very dark brown with a medium thick kaiki head thta dissipates quicly but laces the glass sides. Sweet malty aroma, with a taste ofchocolate and coffee, combined with sweet malts.

Can I change the sampled ammount to around a million? I love this beer. Not quite totally black since there is some light penetration that shows an intensly dark cherry hue. Produces decent sized brown head that is fun to watch while it bubbles down. Retains enough cap to cover entire beer for about half the pint and make some solid lacing rings early on only. None of the qualities of this beer are harsh, strong or overwhelming - everything is in perfect balance and leans towards the milder side which is the main reason that it is so easy and enjoyable to drink. Aroma has sweet warm roasted malts and a good blend of coffee first and chocolate second. Defenetly more coffee - but both of those aromas are quite mild which is nice for once. Taste is very well rounded with the obvious roasted malts and coffee flavours that are excellent. Perfect mouthfeel. Incredibaly smooth and thick with the perfect ammount of slight dry tart bitterness. I dream of this beer in a never emptying pint...always slightly warm and always fresh. My favorite stout. Samuel Smith makes excellent beer period.

An excellent stout with wonderful mouthfeel, aroma, and hints of coffee/chocolate throughout. One of my favorites and a great beer to fall back on.

Amazing. In this case appearance almost compares to what was inside-- the aroma was very enticing; oatmeal with hints of nutty sweetness. This carried over to the taste palate, it was very pleasing and left me with wanting more. ;)

pours black with a nice foamy head filling 2/3 of the glass. Aroma is bitter with light sweetness. Great bitter taste, with the burnt chocolate and bready quality to it. Perfect cap on an evening.

lets not actually rate this beer. This beer is like a swedish super model, Beautiful, sexy, and overwelming. This beer poors like niagara falls, the most beautiful site. It pours smooth, almost as smooth as the quaker oats man himself. this BEER is like your first crush, mysterous, beautiful, and wanting, and when you first taste her, you dont know what to think but the love of your life. Almost like your favorite celebrity sitting naked in front of you. Smooth like a babys butt like they say, smooth like a babies butt. Just like in Old Greg on youtube, "Baileys, as close as you can get without your eyes gettin wet".
