Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Pours a gorgeous deep brown color with a large chocolate-milky head. An immediate sweet, malty aroma. Roasted, sweet taste that goes down smoothly. This will be a repeat buy, I’d really like to try this on tap. 1 ot. 2.7 oz. bottle.

Poured from a 1pt bottle into a glass pint. The color is A very deep dark black with a light brown foamy head. The smell is of chocolate, a little toffee and roasted malts The taste is smooth, creamy, a malty flavor is very deep in the background with a toffee tone. This beer is quite smooth. Goes down real nice and is one the best stouts I’ve had. The overall feel is strong but does not overpower.

Frothy cream colored head, smelled of chocolate. Super strong tasting beer, chocolate, coffee, roasted nuts and an orange citrus like bite made for a suprisingly strong palate. Could drink this as a meal replacement it was so thick.

This stout poured beautifully, viscous and thick, dark drown to black with a firm long lasting tan/cream head. Strong sweet aromas dominate, toffee and caramel with some chocolate. My first (and immediate) impression on tasting was LUSH; this beer was amazingly smooth, a lovely velvety feel in the mouth but much bigger than the previous stouts. Sweet malt flavours up front, mildly bitter with some caramel flavour and a burnt coffee finish. The note I wrote in my diary is “this is what stout is all about”, I loved this beer and have bought it a couple more times since despite it’s incredible price tag.

lets not actually rate this beer. This beer is like a swedish super model, Beautiful, sexy, and overwelming. This beer poors like niagara falls, the most beautiful site. It pours smooth, almost as smooth as the quaker oats man himself. this BEER is like your first crush, mysterous, beautiful, and wanting, and when you first taste her, you dont know what to think but the love of your life. Almost like your favorite celebrity sitting naked in front of you. Smooth like a babys butt like they say, smooth like a babies butt. Just like in Old Greg on youtube, "Baileys, as close as you can get without your eyes gettin wet".

Roasted malt aroma and flavor of oatmeal and malt. Nice and creamy with a bittersweet finish. Superb stout.

355ml dark brown bottle, as pictured. Colour is pitch black, with a big, frothy beige head. Great retention, generous lacing. Very pretty beer. ;=) Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and hazel nuts. White coffee note, too. Heavy-bodied stout with thick, creamy mouth feel. Low carbonation, just right. Flavours include caramel, licorice and coffee. Not too sweet, not too bitter - extremely well balanced - and no "coal like" notes as in Guinness Draught and some other stouts. Dry, bitter finish and lingering espresso after taste. Heavier in style than their "Taddy Porter", a supreme winter beer. One of the great stouts out there, and, with the bitter finish, highly sessionable. A great beer, from a great brewery, of Britain.

Aroma is warm and sweet and represents everything I love about stouts. Sweet and savory nose. Very rich body full of oatmeal and mincemeat (out standing to pair with a mincemeat pie, or bread pudding!) There’s some coffee and molasses in there too. Finishes smooth and malty with some bittersweetness after words. Sometimes this is all the beer I need!
