Chocalet, nutty, and above all, more vanilla than any beer I have ever had. This bitch kicks ass, definitely the best that Samuel Smith has to Offer brewski519 (409), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA

Nose of chocolate, roasted malt, amd coffee. Could sit and smell this beer all day - reminds me of a freshly ground bag of coffee.. just smells so good. Taste of roasted malt, oats, and chocolate coffee. Body is thin with the perfect amount of carbonation for the ideal mouthfeel for this stout. This is without a doubt one of my favorite oatmeal stouts - which is a style that ranks very highly in my house. Pours very dark with a thin, creamy head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, I sense a taste of fig or date and a brown sugary finish. Love this one! twd3lr (4), Benton, Arkansas, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Love this beer. Wish it were easier to obtain in good condition as I have found it in dusty bottles more often than not. MmmcKay (280), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA

Low in alcohol compared to some high octane imperials. This beer doesn’t need to change. Smooth as can be with just the right amount of malt and chocolate flavors. Thank you Sammy Smith for this classic. RichardW (253), Carlisle, Cumbria, England

Beautifully red-tinged black appearance, with a caramel coloured head. The sweet, malty taste is perfectly accompanied by a juicy fruity flavour and a roast, slightly smoky aroma. Plenty of body, but neither heavy, nor cloying. I wish they did this in cask, but when the bottle is this good, there can’t be too many complaints. A beer I regularly come back to..... barleywine1 (11), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

The smell is high on yeast with a little citrus, interesting but not too special. The taste is everything. Think breakfast: chocolate mocha (heavy on the coffee), yogurt with granola, and a few blackberries. Each flavor has a constant presence and no component really overwhelms the others. Plus, although a dark stout, it goes down without resistance (which some people might not like). But I really have nothing bad to say: today, I found a new favorite beer. RKanis (30), Cincinnati, USA

You can really smell the oatmeal. Goes down very smooth with tastes of oatmeal and coffee. Aftertaste is very sweet oatmeal. Excellent brew.
