Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

It doesn’t get much better than this! Delicious, and creamy, this one is sure to satisfy stout lovers with its complex flavor profile. If I had to pick one beer to drink, this would be mine.

Excellent look, scent, and flavor...one of my favorites. A toasted/caramel aroma leads into a smooth, sweet flavor. An excellent stout. Ding!

Yessssss! Beautiful! Strong wood, smoke, coffee, nutty aroma. Kinda like a campfire. The taste was better than the aroma. Wonderful blend of coffee, smoke, nutty, wood, licorice, alcohol, and more. The color was black black, with just a hint of red when held directly in front of a 100 watt light bulb. The carbonation was quite low... which I like in a stout. A hint of sweetness in the aftertaste rounded out the flavor. This is one of the best stouts in the world. Yesssssss! Yesssss! Yesssssss!

As I initially couldn't buy the Imperial Stout, I'm left rating the Oatmeal Stout, which isn't a bad thing at all. Although I was expecting more flaring oatmeal overtones, this has to be one of the best beers I've ever had as far as sit down drinkability. Upon first examination, this beer has the consistency of worcestershire sauce, not nearly as thick as other stouts. Pleasant aroma, mildly sweet, minimal carbonation, bearing a creamy roasted flavor. Awesome texture and finish. This is going to become one of my standards. Bring on the St. Ambroise so I can rate it next! RE-RATE: After pairing two of the Victorian pints to a St. Ambroise, I am prepared to say that this is the smoothest stout I've had to date. I guzzled down two of those suckers like it was water; the pure brewed lager didn't go down as easily.

My favorite beer in the whole world for nearly 20 years! A wonderful sweet stout with incredible smoothness and balance. The only challenge is to ensure that you get fresh bottles - these can get skunky if your supply is not fresh.

This is a truly amazing beer. A thick, dark beer with a thick light brown head. It has a very smooth taste, sweeter than your every day stout thanks to the oatmeal. Try this beer, you will like it

Opaque appearance with red hues. Fantastic oatmeal and chocolate flavor. A meal in itself.
