| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 17, 2009 550 ml bottle. Pours a brilliant translucent copper color with a big off-white creamy head. The aroma is moderately strong with caramel, toffee, apples and bready yeast. The flavor is rich with caramel, biscuit, piney hops and pears. The mouthfeel is full with a bit of an astringent gritty feeling and lively, prickly carbonation. The finish is medium in duration and dry. Overall: There is much to recommend about this brew. chrisv10 (366), Denmark

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 6, 2009 Caramel aroma with some unexpected citrus hops from an English brew. Appearance is reddish brown with creamy head. Flavor is fairly malty, almost rum like, but the hops are not as present as in the aroma. Some buttered caramel and apple as well. One of better English beers I have ever had, and gives me a new outlook on ESBs. dalek123 (103), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2009 Pours amber with a good sized off-whitehead. Taste is mellow, with good sweet maltiness and notes of apples and mild hops. To me, this seemed simple at first and grew on me as the bottle progressed. Very smooth and drinkable. Nice stuff; I would try this one again. puboflyons (609), New Hampshire, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 25, 2009 From the 550 ml. bottle no. SH28C1. The pour is a handsome dark amber with adequate clarity and about two fingers of chunky beige head. The head mellows out after a minute. The aroma is rich in roasted malts and caramel and is clearly distinctive in that way. The mouthfeel is good and the texture remains together for a bit. The taste is more of sweetened malts with some light hops in the background and slightly bitter. You rarely get a dud from Samuel Smith’s. jodah52 (60), Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 19, 2009 Pours light amber, small off-white head. Strong aroma of smoke. Good malt character; smoky flavors evident. Slightly astringent taste, dry and slightly complicated. I suspect this would be a good beer to drink all night long; in small quantities it is a bit lackluster. unclemike (833), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA
