| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 19, 2007 I’ve been drinking Samuel Smith ales since the early 1990s but only now tried this and it’s wonderful. Deep golden with a thick, dense, lasting white head that leaves some lacing, its aroma is a strong pale-lager aroma, malt, grain, a bit flowery, with a musty dust element. The taste is very nice, again a strong, full-bodied pale lager taste: grain, bitter and sweet balance, flowery a bit on the hoppy side for the style, with strong malt taste transitioning into a pleasantly bitter, hoppy finish. It is refreshing and tasty, very smooth and drinkable. jcwattsrugger (5563), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 3, 2007 I am a Samuel Smith’s nut, which is why this one disappoints. The Nut Brown Ale, the Oatmeal Stout, and the Imperial Stout are really the best beers I’ve ever had. I want the rest of the Sam stable to be as good, but alas, they are not. Anything Sam makes has something special about it. I just can’t get over those heads. And the mouthfeel is always above the rest - - something somehow rich and buttery. But flavorwise I just don’t find all that much special about this. Better than most stuff I run into? Yes. Good for a Sam’s? Meh. I’m going to put this same review on the Organic Ale and the Winter Welcome because it’s the same with them. I’ll take them over non-Sam beers, but they fall short Sam-wise. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 12, 2007 Golden beer with a medium sized white head. Slightly perfumed fruity aroma, some pilsner malt notes. Quite sweet and fruity flavour, with a hoppy finish. Better than industrial lager, not quite up there with a good pilsner.
