Bottled: Sherry aroma, oak barrels, some sweetness. Dark golden, light amber color. Rich flavor, sweet, notes of molasse, alcohol, some sherry and wood notes. Alcoholic, dry finish. Too alcoholic for me.

A friend brought this small bottle back from Europe which I thought was very cool as I have been a Samuel Smith fan since before becoming a beer advocate. I do have to note that the bottle lists "seaweed finings" as an ingredient. WTF? Anyway, the appearance was the best part of this beer. It was a clear golden-ruby color with about twelve bubbles clinging to the sides of the glass. It looked great. Unfortunately it smelled like hot alcohol. The taste was mostly alcohol along with a "Sam Smith" taste that I find in all their beers. This beer actually got worse as it warmed. I expected more out of Samuel Smith but I was still happy to have had this beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-12-2007 16:19:01

Flaske: Gylden er øllen ikke, men stærk går dog an. Brunlig med en udmærket karbonering. Vinøse toner er der men de forsvinder hurtigt. Underlig svag øl i forhold til stil og procenter.

(BBE 11/08) Dark amber colored with little light brown head. Toffee-chocolaty aroma with nice vanilla-vinous touch, sweet raisins with thin alcohol, good one. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is drier with well developed raisinny and vinous tone, aftertaste turns to vinous and dry with lemon, thin alcohol also comes up. I like this.

Courtesy of madmitch76. The 6oz bottle pours crystal clear copper with gold edges and thin off white head. The aroma is full bringing up a rich combination of sweet caramel candy and dark fruity esters like dates, prunes, boysenberries and figs. Each draw ends with a touch of alcohol heat. Smells yum! The taste is very similar with a medium body ushering in rich caramel goodness mixing with dark fruity esters. It dries out a bit to midway with a touch of roasted malts and fading caramel and sweet dark fruity esters. It ends with lingering sweet caramel, prunes, dates and ripe cherries. Nice stuff.
