dark golden clor w/ a tiny whisp white head. Heavy sweet aroma reminiscent of a port wine, definate alcohol, hint of tobacco. Palate is full and well coated. Flavor is definatelly full of alcohol, light tobacco tons of carmel some light spicy notes w/ a dry lightly hoppy finish. Pretty good.

Picked this up while I was in England, and was rather surprised to find the Samuel Smith makes a beer like this. Brownish-golden body with a quickly diminishing tanish head. Sweet aroma, almost a port like quality, light alcohol burn. Sweet taste, though with some spiciness and some musky quality as well. Ending is slightly bitter with a bit of an alcohol burn in the ending. A very different barley wine, glad that I was able to pick it up and try it.

Bottled. Clear, golden BW with a small white head. Sweet aroma with malt, alcohol and honey. Alcohol, sugar and some bitterness in the flavor. Warming, full body. Delicious, lovely, warming and sweet beer that would suit the winter better than the summer. (060801)

180 ml bottle: Pours clear and deep golden with a tiny, mostly deminishing off-white head. Aroma of malt and caramel. The flavour is sweet with malt, dried fruit and alcohol bite. Medium to full bodied. Honey texture. Sweet alcohol and light bitter finish. Tastes OK, but it’s too expensive compared to quality.

Poured a mostly clear dark gold with a minimal off-white head. The aroma was sweet and fruity and had some age to it. I don’t know how old this was but it had a May 2006 best by date. Also big notes of vanilla sugar cookies and bubble gum. Some alcohol fumes. It smelled very yummy. Sweet malty flavor with some more age notes and a mild tartness. some fruitiness was present. Finished with a mild bitterness and woodiness. Dry with a nice warming sensation. Medium bodied with some silkiness in the mouth. It appears I liked this beer more than most.
