78- pours copper clear, tastes good, orange some metal, some biscuit. lots of fizz, sugary sweett honey. i originally wrote lacks hop character but when i drank it again in a more sober state, decided it had a good amount of grasy hops. none too shabby.

Draught @ The Chandos. Pours golden with decent head. Aroma is not very exciting although some malts come through. Taste is rather poor and hard to believe SS have made this.

The 78. Aroma is biscuty, cardboard, good pale malt character. Taste is similar grassy pale malt, bittering hops in the finish make it very quenching for having cycled for a good hour or so.

This was an ok beer. I had it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it but it wasn’t one that I will drink everyday.

Pint poured at the John Snow in Soho (London). Nothing special here, golden colour with a large white head, quite malty. Too cold to be able to say much else.

On draught @ the Anchor Tap, Tower Bridge.
A mere half-step up from the Alpine lager comes this one. S. Smith should stick with ales as this reeks of new market direction. Should be canned and available at all off-license liquor stores. Anyway, bright medium gold with a tight, thin white pad that held out (barely) and left a little legs. Feint barnyard malt nose that was clean. Carbonation is quite subtle in the mouth becoming soapy and plastic towards the back. Lager malt dominates, sweet upfront with a tinge of sourness as it moves backwards. Hops are dusty and don’t play too much of a role and the finish, thankfully, remains crisp and short. Nothing too awful to say about it except how easy it is to forget ever tasting it.

Very sweet, like a Polish or a Czech lager, but not too strong. Beers from this brewery are interesting always.

<a href=http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/20/201 Angel, St Giles, London Lightly hopped British lager with a wheaty, slightly dirty malt and a gentle carbonation. it’s drinkable but neither tasty nor interesting.
