It is very dark yet still somewhat clear. The aromas are sweet, there are lots of malt with some chocolate and some roasted notes. The flavor is overall on the sweet side, with lots of dark chocolate and a little bit of coffee. The only criticism of this brew might be that it is a little thin, but the flavors are very smooth and very strong and overall I think it is a great beer. l1br4r14n (286), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 20, 2009 A very deep almost black porter with a nice very dark ruby tint when held up to the light. There is a somewhat loose but very big tan head on the top. I normally don’t mention it but for whatever it’s worth this has one of my all time favorite beer labels. Aroma has a nice chocolate, roasty, and raisin character with sort of an odd chemical thing going on in the back ground. The flavor is wonderful packed with coca some mild coffee, a deep roastiness almost to the point of burnt and more featuring more bitterness than usually profiled in this style. Classic but different. Very good. terrybail (340), London, Ontario, Canada
