| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Deep dark chocolate brown color - approaches black in the center, but I’ve seen darker beers. Nice creamy head - pleasant light brown color, really complements the body. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate, and what I would call overripe bananas. Flavor is dominated by a slightly bitter chocolate, a dry roasted barley, and much less so by a faint fruit taste -- more raisin than anything else. The hops are slightly more apparent as it warms up, and add to the dryness. However, the beer maintains a slight oiliness, but is ultimately a bit thinner than I hoped for. The thinness comes and goes, and when the beer is at its fullest it’s quite nice, but ultimately I think this beer should be more full. Still a pretty solid porter.
