Pours out a nice ruby-brown with a decent tan head and some nice highlights and lacing. Aroma is oak, raisins, some breadiness and a wee dram of bourbon. Flavor is oaked bread with dark fruit and that same very mild astringency that I find in every Sammy Smith beer but that never deters me from enjoying them. (Except in India Ale) Another solid winner from the brewer, though not nearly worth the price point. daknole (2942), Plantation, Florida, USA

Flavor is smooth and malty. Best Sam Smiths I think I have ever had. TURDFERGUSON (1603), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2009 Bottle, shared by Jason at Tylers Bottle Shop. Big, woody and sweet aromas with some dark fruit and a little booze. Flavor is sweet, oak, and malty. Pretty much whatever, not really worth sinking out except for a tick. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2009 Hell, this bitch is delicious. Lots and lots of malty sweetness with hints of bourbon on the nose. Flavor is also pretty sweet with some bourbon notes showing through, but a mellow and hoppy finish balances it incredibly well. No idea what this is or why I like it so much, but it’s badass. JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 15, 2009 Bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Cloudy and somewhat still mahogany pour. Sharp and somewhat boozy aroma, settling into a thick blend of wood, port, and sweet caramel scents. Body is a bit thin, I suppose, but it’s certainly not too far off the mark for the style. There’s a nice malt presence to tie everything together, a sweet and chewy core, but the oak and dessert wine really do dominate. It’s quite pleasant, and I think Douglas is right that it compares favorably to an older Fullers. Nice, but I’m not sure I’d spring for it again at this price. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 15, 2009 Bottle. Clear amber/orange pour, plenty of carbonation with a caramel, sweet cherry and whiskey aroma. Flavor is definite oak, vanilla, dark berries and a plenty of malt. Finish is dry and also woody with a little noticable alcohol, (although well balanced). Good, but I probably won’t but it again. douglas88 (1605), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2009 500 ml bottle from the Boise Co-op drank with friends at Jordan’s pad, costly at 11 bucks but nice. Anyway, pours a clear copper color with a large white head. The aroma is sweet; sherry and oak, lots of malts and caramel. The flavor is nice; a sweet sherry an caramel mix, strong malty backbone, oak flavors. Slightly sour from the aging process. Like a Fullers Vintage Ale. Very good. Distinctly English.
