Ok aroma, sweet fruits (pear?). Appearance is good with very little head that dissipates quickly. Color is ruby red/copper. Very smooth mouthfeel. Sweetness grows as beer warms. This beer has a kick but the sweetness is weird and I don’t like it.

Wow, I wanted to try this beer pretty bad so when I was sticker shocked by the price I had to buckle down and get it anyway. Curse-d $11.99 half liter. Pours deep copper with cherry red hues and firm light tan head. The aroma is sweet with a bit of booze, maple syrup, ripe cherries and sweet malts. The taste begins as sweet as the aroma smells with malts, maple syrup, a touch of vanilla, faint oak and some slick bourbon booze. It ends with some tasty caramel, slight roast and light amounts of sweet malts.

Another great beer from Samuel Smith. Pours a dark copper/brown with a pungent orange peel, clove, and nutmeg aroma. The flavor is very soft and delicate; like mild bread pudding with a touch of raisin. The bread flavor is pronounced. Very good, drink by itself or with a warm pastry.

Pours attractive clear ruddy brown with a thin cream colored head. Nose is sweet malt and some dried fruit. Same in the flavor with a sweet caramel like finish. Medium mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours cloudy amber with a medium tan head. Citrusy hop nose with some sugar and sweet malt. Sweet malt flavor up front with a bit of bitter hop in the finish. Nicely balanced.

Dark reddish amber with a pretty big and thick pale beige head with a surprisingly good retention. Nice lacings stick along. A somewhat edgy, yet also round smell. Noticeable spiciness and stingy mix of alcohol and a hint of vinegar. But underneath this edgy character lies a beautiful and smooth malty foundation of dark bread, caramel, fudge and coco powder. Rich cherry-like fruitiness, raisins and nuts. The composition of rich sweet aromas and hints of tartness is definitely interesting, but I don’t know if it’s all together successful. A pleasant taste, but still hard to really get a grip on. The maltiness is dense and has a rather bready character. Caramel, fudge and some chocolate notes delivers much of the sweetness. Plenty of nutty aromas. Vinous fruits (cherries, red apples). The sweetness is balanced by a rather noticeable tart note, which is actually quite surprising but very pleasant. The beer has distinct "aged" character and it is obvious that is has been barrel aged (dusty cellar, some wet wood and that general taste of oak barrel). In the finish, there is a mild bitterness and a prominent taste of alcohol. Raisins, some herbs and spices rounds it off. Medium body with a smooth texture. Initially, the carbonation is a little bit too much, but it settles nicely. Not bad at all, but it’s not excellent. This is strong ale light. The body is much lighter than I would have expected for the style. It’s more like a pale ale or ESB in body and flavor. Impressive masking of strength in this one It could be dangerous.
