BeerandBlues2 (3190), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 16, 2009 GABF 2009. Pours clear dark yellow with a small, rocky white head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, bread, grain, meal), heavy hop (flowers, pine, resin, citrus), heavy yeast (dough, sweat, soap) with notes of apple, pear, peach, pineapple, and ginger. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2009 GABF 2009, day 3: Caramelly and bready malts were complemented by rich and bright hops. It had it all ... citrus, grass, grapefruit and pine. And great balance, too. Surprisingly delicious.
KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Oct 1, 2009 GABF ’09. Pours a deep yellow with a nice head and an aroma of honey plastic and floral hops. Flavor is biting, sharp, perfumy hops. Slick and pleasant mouthfeel. Good IIPA. JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 9, 2009 Growler, nice IPA. Amber pour, off white head. Fresh hops, grapefruit, citrus, sweet malt, candy sugar, sweet fruit. Quite sweet for an IPA, with some tropcial notes going on, very juicy and fresh. Tasty, I think its close to a double. danielcurtis81 (868), San Diego, California, USA Aug 30, 2009 Tap at the brewpub. Pours a nice brown hued golden hue. There are some fast moving micro bubbles that flow up to a dense white head that looks just like freshly fallen snow. Nose it pure hope with a little tickle from all of the bubbles. Flavors are also hoped up with the main drive being grapefruit and orange peel. Alcohol pokes up a bit in the mildly bitter mouth. Over all a nice SoCal IPA
Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Aug 29, 2009 On tap at SD brew co. Tasted alongside Lagunitas IPA, Expo Hoppiness, Blind Pig. Strong amber glass with resilient white head. Nose is sugary sweet and piny hops. Sharp citrus and mango sweetness. Taste is bright, full, smooth fruit sweetness, with a good sharpness of hops. Very nice IPA. DalzAle (473), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Jun 7, 2009 Growler. Light yellow orange pour, medium carbonation with rich aromatic flower, grapefruit and herbal smell. Flavor was sweet, syrupy malts, hops, vanilla, and finished warm with alcohol. SOLID IPA!! Go out of your way to get this one! sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA May 19, 2009 sample @ SDBC, courtesy of Dean, brewmaster. Tapped the keg just so I could enjoy it fresh.
That beer really live dup to its Gold Medal status.
Pours golden/orange, white head.
Aroma is hoppy, melon, nice fresh nose, with hints of raspberry.
Taste, superbly hoppy, fruity - melon, citrus finish) sweet, some spices, not a hop bomb, though present, it just remains well balanced and easy to drink.
