CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 15, 2007 On tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival: Pours a mostly opaque with dark brown edges and a dense, frothy dark tan head. Aroma of roasty caramel and black patent malts with a touch of plum fruitiness. Body starts lightly sweet and roasty drying toward a semi-tart, warming finish. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2007 a murky brown color with thin eggshell head. coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and sour cherry. flavor is coffee, chocolate and only hints of the funky cherry/fruity flavor. maybe a little dark belgian candi sugar in there too... ? could have had a better appearance, and stronger characteristics all the way around. seemed watered down. HERRDUNKEL (1), SAN DIEGO, California, USA does not count Jan 11, 2007 Good strong rep. Not too much ABV. Could be a bit heartier and less carbonization. smooth finish. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Jun 5, 2006 Updated: Feb 7, 2007Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest 05: Murky brown color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of coffee and roasted sweet malt. Notes of prunes and light chocolate. Roasted coffe flavor with a tart and tangy finish. Semi-dry finish. 7/3/5/3/13
10th Annual SD Strong Ale Fest: Very dark brown almost opaque with a medium tan head. roasty malt aroma with notes of chocolate, dark sweet fruit and candy. Roasty flavor was less complex than the aroma. Estery finish. Nice warmth. Semi-dry bitter finish. jimrockford (49), San Diego, California, USA Apr 19, 2006 Aroma: Chocolate, coffee, burn roast, VERY NICE
Appearance: Almost black dense
Flavor: Very big roasted malt and bitterness slight tang on back of tongue which was a plus in my opinion
Palate: dense mouthfeel thick
Overall: Great Impy stout!!!! beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Mar 6, 2006 Draft at Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest, Dec 05. Moderately dark brown, fairly hazy. Milky roasty aroma, some semi-sweet chocolate. Sweet lightly roasty flavors, some chocolate, and something kinda earhty/funky. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Feb 28, 2006 Draft: Dark brown, nose of fruity light roast and subtle coffee and chocolate. The flavor is more of a baltic porter with almost no astringency or high end hops, just intense chocolate cocoay notes. The finish is good and medium bodied. yum. Mellow, light, balanced.
