Classic roasted barley malt flavors dominate this strong, dark brew. An extra ingredient - oats - adds to the rich taste of this brew.

On tap @ brewpub. Pours a deep black color with a foamy tan head. A slight sweetness lurks behind the otherwise hoppy (for the style) aroma. Light bodied and easy drinking, with hints of licorice and malt. Good bitter bite, not a bad offering.

Dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Sweet molasses and coffee syrup aroma. Like my wife. Concommitent taste. And attitude. Could be better. Like my marriage.

black body, biggest head in the brewery (meaning it actually has one), roasty chocolate flavors, dry and well balanced, certainly the best ale that I had at the brewery, very light on the palate while still maintaing a rich source of dark malt flavor, dry, a very nice stout indeed

Draught at the brewpub Dark brown with a small, tan head. A lot of cocoa and milky chocolate. Pretty burnt with a slightly too thin body.

Sampled at SFBC, June 2007. Muddy, opaque dark brown with a beige head. Nice roasty mocha-laden nose. Bold and flavorful. Full chocolate, rock-solid caramel sweetness, mocha, coffee, light soil and a hint of roastiness. Medium smooth body with mild, fine-beaded carbonation. My favorite of the SFBC’s beers I’ve sampled.

One of the very best of the West Coast stouts. Available only on tap at the brewery in San Francisco.

Enjoyed a few pints of this one at the brewpub on a trip back to San Francisco, CA in July of 06. This beer was the most enjoyable of the beers I sampled, and a good version of Irish/dry stout. This beer pours to a jet black color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is nice, with some good dark chocolate, coffee, and light roast aromas. The palate is soft and fat on the tongue with good dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley flavor. The beer finishes with more good dark malt and coffee flavor up front, then ends roasty, dry, and pleasingly bitter. A decent pint of stout.

no great surprise that the stout turned out to be this place´s best offering, but that´s not saying much. lightly lactic in a way that reminded me of sweetened german dark beers, chemicals and barbecue sauce
