Hudspart (327), Hudsonville, Michigan, USA Aug 13, 2007 Bottle. Really good lager.Moderately malty aroma. Frothy, light-brown head. Head lasted entire time it took me to drink the beer. Good flavor and palate, with short duration.
lumpsowers (87), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Sep 18, 2008 Light and malty, sweet. Small head, pretty pour and color. Watery mouthfeel, nothing special. douglas88 (820), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 14, 2008 Bottle thanks to mmm///beer. Pours a dark black color which is reddish when held up to a light source. A small white head. A pleasant nutty and fruity aroma, some malt too. The flavor is quite nice; tons of dark fruits; plums and prune, but also something quite sweet, berries perhaps. A toasted malt and a bit of light milk chocolates. I like this beer, it is full of flavor and well made. otakuden (117), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 9, 2008 Half the fun of being a beer geek is never knowing where your next beer will take you. It could be in the next county, the next state, or halfway across the world. In the case of the San Miguel Dark Lager, I am transported to the Philippines, home of this very delicious dark lager.
As I pour her bewitching dark brew into my glass (proper glassware is important), sweet, dark toasted malt and burnt espresso aromas tempt my senses. A mild head lingers on her lusciously dark brown body. A surprisingly light and smooth body for a dark lager. San Miguel goes down with toasty malt sweetness, a bit of chocolate, burnt espresso, and hearty earthy notes. An additional creamy mouthfeel and flavor adds an additional milk stout aspect.
Considering I love both milk stouts and dark lagers, San Miguel Dark Lager brings the best of both brews together in my glass. I am very pleased with this fine brew from the Philippines and would love to try some of San Miguel’s other offerings. Not great, but not horrible either. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 29, 2008 Bottle from By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a dark brown body with a small off-white head. Sweet sugary nutty nose. Some spicy hops on the tongue with a thin yet sweet malty presence. A little to sweet for my taste. I much prefer to drink Negra Modela than this beer. jkwalking05 (182), Arlington, Texas, USA Jul 26, 2008 Dark brown with an average sized off-white head. Aroma is of caramel and malt with some brown sugar and roasted notes. Flavor is caramel and nuts.
