Big toasted malt flavor with a bit of roasted malt and caramel. Syrupy and heavy body, but a moderately bitter bite. Definitely not a normal Amber. A bit chalky on the finish. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 30, 2007 Pours an average size, creamy, light brown head that is mostly diminishing. The body is murky and reddish brown in hue. I think I picked up the smell of roasted malts, chocolate malts, and perhaps some mild coffee malt in the aroma. The initial flavor is predominantly roasted malt and finishes with a slightly sweet, nutty taste. The duration of the aftertaste is short. This ale is medium bodied with average carbonation.
A very flavorful ale but somewhat lacking in organization. The flavors and texture did not seem to be in sync in my opinion. Not a beer I would buy again. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
