Sand Creek Hard Lemonade

8/12/2007: I just recently received a bottle of Sand Creek Hard Lemonade as a bonus from buckybeer. I enjoy all beer, including fruit beer, but I figured my wife would really like this one since she loves lemon juice in her water and lemonade in general, so I saved it for her...

Here are my wife’s comments: "Color is very pale yellow with a white head. The beer is fizzy with small bubbles. It smells like lemonade - not just lemons as there is some sweetness to it. It tastes like lemon drops or those candy-coated lemon balls (I think she meant Lemonheads). Mmm... It’s pretty good! It’s much better than something like Mike’s Hard Lemonade as it doesn’t taste fake. Not as good as New Glarus Belgian Red, Raspberry Tart, or fruit Lambic, but better than most beer..." Well, it looks like she really liked it and enjoyed it quite a bit. She has a smile on her face with toungue out. There is also a lot of lip smacking going on!

My comments: Sand Creek Hard Lemonade pours a cloudy and extremely pale straw color. Actually, it’s nearly white with a tinge of yellow to it! The is a small, whipped white head that sits on top and lasts for a decent length of time as well. The beer appears to be moderately to generously carbonated, but not quite what I would call "fizzy". The aroma reminds me of corn syrup with lemon juice sqeezed into it; there is a lot of lemon smell alont with a sweet base. This beer is quite sweet, but the tartness of the lemon really balances it out. It tastes very much like the inside of a Lemonhead! The lemon tastes real though. The body of this beer is medium-light and it is smooth on the palate. It’s even a little sticky on the lips. The carbonation bubbles are really small and mellow. I actually really like this beer as well (especially since it’s one I can give to my wife!). I think that Sand Creek did a really nice job with this beer. Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Flanagan’s Liquors in Appleton, WI. Pours a semi-cloudy pale yellowish straw brew with a fizzy white head that has some good retention and lacing. Aroma of sweetened lemonade, some corn syrup, light bready malt and no detected hop character. Taste is medium bodied, smooth, well-carbonated with a more decent lemonade flavor than most other lemon fruit beers I’ve tried. Finish is slightly tart lemon flavor that is a decent summer refresher. According to the brewery this is a multi-grain malt lager brewed with real lemons.

Milky straw yellow with thin quickly fading white head. Aroma of lemons, lemonade and sugar. Aroma of sweet malts, lemons, basically malty lemonade. Sweet and a little sticky with a tart finish. I was pleasantly surprised by this one, I was expecting something along the lines of Summer Shandy.

Cloudy yellow. Smell of honey, lemons, malt and sugar. Taste of lemons, sugar, malt, honey and some earth. Very sweet but it does taste like lemons. Its ok but I would not drink this all the time.

Pours a cloudy dull golden with a faint head. For what it is the aroma is pretty decent. Not much else top say except that is smells like lemon. Not fake lemon but pretty a natural aroma. Flavor is very sweet malts and lemon. Actually it is sort of tasty. At least around here it is selling very well. I think it is mostly the gals buying it up.

Beer #27 at GTMW ’09. The server told me this was a Pomegranate hard lemonade. But the program only shows the regular brew. Well, after this many beers, I start hearing a lot of things. Certainly smells like a radler, lot of lemon flavor. But plenty of malts. Taste mostly lemony, but no sourness, seems to be balanced by malts. Very cloudy yellow in appearance. Smell is very lemony. Does go down nicely and helps wash down my chicken sandwich and fried cheese curds.

Pours to a super hazy yellow body with a creamy bleached white head. The aroma is lemony with a pale malt base. The flavor actually is not that bad. Simple pale malts and tart lemons. Sugary sweet. Actually drinkable. The palate is sweet and tart. Sugary and refreshing. I didn’t think this was as bad as the others have stated.

Yellow, substantial white head. Tastes like fizzy lemonade, with little to no evidence of beer’s involvement. It’s lemonade, and it gets you buzzed. Nothing wrong with that.
